LG G2 Announced, 13 MP Camera & Buttons at the back
LG has announced its new flagship smartphone named G2 which is the first without the Optimus branding. It's coming to more than 130 carriers around the world, including all four major American carriers, and represents the company's attempt to take on the iPhone 5, Galaxy S4, Nokia Lumia 1020 and other flagship device in the market.
The most unique feature in LG G2 is its rear-mounted power and volume keys, there are no buttons on the side or on front of the device, instead opting to put everything on the back. LG is calling it as a new perspective in smartphone design by saying that as phones get larger, reaching the buttons on the side or top gets harder. Though I always realized this while using Samsung Galaxy Grand and Note II and I have never been able to use them with only one hand. So, it is to some extent, one step in the right direction. Which is why LG is labeling it as a phone which is designed for one-handed operation.
Though LG G2 is a large phone with a 5.2-inch screen, 1080p display. It's slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy S4's 5-inch display, and it's an LCD rather than an AMOLED panel. The phone itself is thin, at 8.9mm, but there's top-notch power inside; a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26GHz, 2GB of RAM, a 3,000mAh battery(which is a let down), and either 16 or 32GB of internal storage and no 64 GB yet. There's also graphic RAM built into the display which will reduce the screen's energy usage with this big a screen it's going to need all the help it can get with the small battery.
It has a 13-megapixel camera on the back which is equipped with optical image stabilization. The speaker parts have been slimmed down as well, and the phone comes with Hi-Fi sound that. LG's seems to have taken a page or two from Samsung's book, and the G2 appears to borrow the Galaxy S4's penchant for software tweaks and customizations. There's Answer Me, which knows when you're raising your phone to your ear and automatically answers an incoming call; or Plug & Pop, which guesses what you might want to do when you plug in headphones or a USB cable. There's a Guest Mode feature, QuickRemote and an IR blaster, and Text Link, which is a very Google-like feature that guesses what you want to do with a bit of text that you select.
On the software side, LG has thrown in more than just a few ringtones from the Vienna Boys' Choir. It offers features like AnswerMe, which answers incoming calls when you put the phone up to your ear, and Slide Aside, which lets you do a three-finger gesture to "slide" open apps off the screen for multitasking.
Disappointingly, G2 doesn’t have a microSD card slot and with its non removable battery, it certainly is not a game changer but its specs meet the status quo, and it is certainly LG's more ambitious smartphone to date.
