Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini unveiled
“Dear Apple, for your every release, we will release 5 phones around you”. – Samsung
First, Note 2 and now Galaxy S3 mini, well, Samsung are launching smart phones at the rate of knots. I don’t know what strategy is going behind all this but it surely is a hard time being a rival company. Apple will suffer for sure, so will other smart phone manufacturers as Samsung continues it saga of smartphones. Another in their arsenal is Newly, freshly and ahem ahem… Galaxy S3 mini. Samsung showcased their Galaxy S3 Mini at an event in Germany. S3 mini is dwarf sibling twin of the Galaxy S3. Notably, Galaxy S3 Mini has not come packed with ‘to die for’ specs and features. It seems just a mediocre version of Galaxy S3 with a 4-inch display. We were hoping for a mini power house with a quad core processor but its come with a dual core processor.
Tech Specs & Features
Galaxy S3 comes with a 4-inch display having a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Screen is made of Samsung’s already spread Super AMOLED technology. It comes with a 1GHz dual core processor + 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard memory. S3 will be shipped with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware.
Disappointingly, Galaxy S3 Mini has a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA camera in front. It also has NFC for proximal communications. S3 also supports microSD. With a 1,500mAh battery, it is expected to give a decent power backup.
Following are the features of the phone:
480 x 800 display Super AMOLED display
1GHz dual-core processor
1GB of RAM
16GB of internal memory
5MP rear camera with LED flash front-facing VGA snapper
NFC
MicroSD card slot
1,500mAh battery
Form Factor and Size:
In my opinion, what Samsung did best with mini is making it pocket friendly unlike S3 and Note, Note 2. With the dimensions of 121.55 x 63 x 9.85mm, it weighs at 111.5g.
Price and Availability
Samsung has not exposed the exact the release data and price of the handset. It is not clear whether the device will get a U.S. version. Price may be around $350-$430, means it’s a fierce competitor for HTC One V, Nokia Lumia 710 and iPhone 4.
"This is something that will compete not with flagship devices from other companies, but their mid-tier," Gartner analyst Jon Erensen said. "It's not competing against the iPhone 5 but against the 4S and 4, in that price range."
