Top 5 Tablets of 2013

We are just a couple of weeks away from 2014, and here is the list of Tech Wrench's top 5 Tablets of the year 2013. We also listed the Tech Wrench Top 10 Smart Phones last month where android was the outright winner and LG Google Nexus 5 won the top honors beating the likes of Apple iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Let us see who tops the table in the tablets market.

At number 5, we have a new entrant, Nokia’s very first tablet called Nokia Lumia 2520. It runs on Microsoft’s Windows RT 8.1 under Nokia’s top-notch hardware, ranging from build quality to the camera sensor. The 2520 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, a 6.7-megapixel camera, 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a microSD card slot for adding even more, and 8,120mAh battery.

At number 4, we have a sleek and powerful tablet from Sony which is the combination of the Sony Xperia Z and Tablet Z. It's a waterproof tablet which adds to it being a solid top 5 contender. Measuring at 266mm x 172mm (10.5 x 6.8 inches) but still very light at 495g (1.09lbs). The Sony Xperia Tablet Z sports a Full HD display 1200 x 1920 pixels spread over its 10.1-inch screen, giving a pixel density of 224ppi. It is powered by a 6,000mAh power pack.

Coming in at number 3 is the Apple iPad Mini 2 has a 7.9 inch crisp display with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 at 326 ppi. It is powered by the new A7 chip with 64-bit architecture and runs on iOS 7.  A7 chip with 64-bit architecture combined with M7 motion coprocessor delivers a killer performance which Apple claims is up to four times faster CPU and up to eight times faster graphics performance than the previous generation. It claims a battery life of upto 10 Hrs. A 5MP iSight rear Autofocus camera which shoots videos at 1080p HD and has got Video stabilization, Face detection, Tap to focus while recording and 3x video zoom.

At number 2, we have Google Nexus 7 packs a 1.5Ghz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and comes with either 16GB or 32GB of storage weighing just 260g. With its 7-inch IPS display and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 display at 323 ppi. It runs the latest version of Android, 4.4 KitKat. It has a 1.2MP front facing, fixed focus and 5MP rear facing, auto focus camera and a 3950 mAh with Up to 9 hours active use and also supports wireless charging built-in (Qi compatible). It has got microUSB, is SlimPort™ enabled and got a Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G) 802.11 a/b/g/n.

And, the top spot goes to the latest tablet from Apple, the all new iPad Air. It measures 9.4 inches (240 mm) x 6.6 inches (169.5 mm) x 0.29 inch (7.5 mm) and Weighs 1 pound (469 g). A Retina display with 9.7-inch LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS technology at a resolution of 2048 x 1536 at 264 ppi along with Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating. iPad Air is powered by an A7 chip with 64-bit architecture and M7 motion coprocessor. Apple claims iPad Air keeps you connected faster than ever in more locations than ever using two antennas instead of one and MIMO technology, iPad Air delivers up to twice the Wi-Fi performance of its predecessor. And the Wi-Fi + Cellular model supports more LTE bands than ever, so you can make quick, easy connections the world over. It runs on iOS 7 and claims battery life of upto 10 Hrs.

Though Samsung which is riding on the success with Google Android is making serious inroads into the Smartphone market but undoubtedly, Apple is still the king of  the tablets. We really found it hard to actually place any of the Samsung tablet in the top 5 list, but we could have some how, got one into the top 10.
