Top 5 Windows Mobile Phones of 2013
Here we are once again, after listing the Top 10 smart phones, Top 5 tablets and Top 5 Android phones of 2013, its time to put some light on our third eco-system, the Windows 8 Phone. Much like Samsung and Android allied together, we have Nokia and Microsoft covering the major chunk of Windows phone market. When Nokia decided to go for Microsoft as its OS, there were many eyebrows raised and rightly so looking at the market and the apps eco-system at that time, but Windows and Nokia have come a long time since then, moreover, Microsoft has acquired the Lumia and Asha series phones recently.
HTC Windows Phone 8X
With lightning-fast 4G speeds, scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 2 on a 4.3" 720 x 1280 pixels HD screen with ~342 ppi pixel density, an 8 MP Camera with autofocus and LED flash, a secondary 2.1MP camera which shoots at 1080p, 16 GB storage, 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM. It is available in LTE and non-LTE versions, subject to device market availability. Similar to the Nokia Lumia 920 it has a one-piece polycarbonate shell. HTC 8X deserves a spot in top 5 Windows phones.
Nokia Lumia 925
At fourth position, we have a phone which is labeled as Nokia's first grown-up-looking Windows smartphone as this is the first to be housed in all aluminum case rather than the convention polycarbonate in Lumia series. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 SoC and features a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor with Adreno 225 graphics. It uses the same chipset used Lumia 920. With a 4.5-inch screen having a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels at 334 ppi on AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, it is available in 16 or 32 GB versions on 3G, LTE.
An 8.7 Mp rear camera with dual-LED flash, 1.3 Mp front camera. It also supports NFC. Lumia 925 just weighs 139 g. It comes with a non replaceable battery which Nokia claims to last upto 440 hours of standby time which is over 18 days.
Nokia Lumia 520
Another Nokia phone in the list is in at number 3, and it is none other than the largest selling windows phone in the world, Nokia Lumia 520, I am using this and trust me, this is truly a simple, cheapest and yet a great windows device. The best part about Lumia 520 is its price and the performance it gives at this price. Very comfortable on the hands with a size of 64x9.9x119.99mm, and optimal 4" screen and just 124g. Its rounded corners gives a superior feel none the less. Running Windows Phone 8 on a 4" IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 800x480, at 235ppi and powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics, 512MB RAM, Lumia 520 offers absolutely no lags.
Its 8GB internal storage expandable upto 64 GB and 7GB online storage puts its the storage worries away. It has a single camera, a 5Mp rear camera with 4x digital zoom which supports 1280x720 video recording at 30fps. Whats also great is its 1,430mAh removable battery, and cover which lets you to change the color of your phone whenever you want. Nokia claimes a battery life of 360 hours on standby, 9.6 hours talk time and 61 hours music playback.
Nokia Lumia 1020
As we are closing in on number one, the last 3 devices have been all Nokias. With Lumia 1020, Nokia has done it again, where they left last time with PureView 808 last time, they have integrated their PureView technology into their flagship Lumia phone with 41 MP camera. Nokia Lumia 1020 which was made official on Thursday, 11 July 2013. The 41-megapixel Pureview sensor in Lumia 1020 includes an optical image stabilization, 6-lens Zeiss optics, and a big xenon flash, making it the centerpiece for the rear of the phone. It can shoot still images at 38-megapixel in 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios just like PureView 808. At the same time as it captures the high-resolution images, it also takes an oversampled 5-megapixel image using the sensor that can then be easily shared thanks to its smaller file size.
Main camera
We have a Windows phone winner here, and its Nokia Lumia 1520 which is the first phablet from Nokia. The 1520 is also the first Windows Phone with a 1080p screen and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor. Lumia 1520 is a huge piece of hardware and if you thought the 4.5-inch display on Nokia’s previous range of Lumia devices was large, then the 1520 dwarves it in comparison. Similar to the existing Lumia range, the Lumia 1520 includes a polycarbonate body and is available in red, yellow, black, or white.
While the 1520 is 3.36 inches wide, 6.4 inches tall, and weighs 7.37 ounces, despite being only 0.34 inches thick, is strictly for a 2 hand use mainly because of it’s build. The new LCD display is bright and vibrant and has great viewing angles and deep blacks.
Lumia 1520 has got quad-core, 2.26GHz processor and 2GB of RAM which houses a 3,400mAh battery, built-in wireless charging, and support for LTE networks. Nokia is using a new, lower-resolution version of its 41-megapixel PureView sensor with 20 megapixels. It has optical image stabilization and the PureView capabilities of zooming in after you take a picture without a loss of quality. The PureView zoom level is limited to 2x on the 1520, as opposed to the 3x zoom on the 41-megapixel Lumia 1020.
So we can definitely conclude that Nokia + Windows is a better combination than Samsung + Android, but remember, Windows heavily relies on Nokia only, but Android has a wide range of devices, from Sony, HTC, Samsung, LG to many other brands.
